"Your Computer Restarted Because of a Problem"

Ever since installing the OS X EL Capitan security update provided by the Mac App Store which effectively upgraded the OS to OS version 10.11.1 BOTH my iMac and MacBook Air have been restarting continuously. Whether I am browsing the internet, checking emails, or working in Photoshop, a black screen suddenly appears with white text stating ‘Your Computer Restarted because of a Problem. Please press a key on your keyboard or wait for restart’.

This message does not give any indication as to whether the restart is being caused by a hardware or software issue, although I suspect that the security patch that I have mentioned above is the culprit since I have had no unexpected restarts prior to the patch being installed.

How could I go about fixing this? Do I remove the patch? I do need my iMac and MacBook Air to work at all times, a notion which I’m sure many other people agree with given the price of these products.
