Problem with Airport Express and Rega DAC (digital audio converter)

I recently bought an airport express and a Rega DAC (digital audio converter) to be able to stream music to my stereo system wirelessly and play it through my stereo system in CD quality. I got everything set up, but when in wireless mode, the Apple Airport Express causes some audio glitches. They are best described as static zapping noises.

Setup:

  • Airport Express is joined to my existing wireless network
  • I use iTunes to stream music to it.
  • Airport Express is connected to the power plug and has an optical out to my Rega DAC (Digital Audio Converter)
  • Rega DAC is connected to my Naim Audio Preamp, and Preamp is connected to Naim Amp.

I have a video file in this location on my onedrive and some pictures of the setup: http://1drv.ms/1leJZFe

The video file with audio is the most useful. You hear a number of zap zap zap like noises right in the beginning of the audio track that is playing. This occurs about at least once in every song or every other song. Super annoying, renders the whole streaming music wirelessly ideauseless.

This does NOT occur when I connect my Macbook Pro directly to the Rega DAC via USB. All plays perfectly then. So it’s not the DAC that’s having an issue.

I looked for interference culprits, like my cordless phone for example. I have one and disconnected it completely (unplugged it from power source), but no difference. I don’t know what else to look for.

Any help much appreciated!
