I bought a Seagate 2,5″ 1TB USB3 harddisk a couple of months ago for storing photos on my MBPro 13″ retina bought about a year ago.
It seems as if the USB contact on the right side is very loose. I have read about others with the same problem recently but am unable to find out where.
I have a plastic shell on my MBP and have glued a pouch for the seagate disk to avoid movement.
Still – moving the MBP around – f.ex. from one table to another – very often results in the harddisk loosing contact with the MBP and I get the message about the harddisk not being properly ejected.
When trying to reconnect the harddisk it gets power but is not detected at all!
Resetting the MBP – no difference.
Changing to the other USB3 contact – no difference.
If I hook up the harddisk to another computer and copy a file to it – then it will be detected again – until next time I move the MBP around for some reason.
After having been extremely careful handling the MBP for a week now, it happened again. I forgot to connect the MBP to the power supply before the battery ran empty. Result – harddisk not properly ejected – and again – not detected.
In the post I mentioned above a guy suggest to use tools to fix the rollers in the bottom of the USB contact since they, according to him sits too deep.
I must say this is not a very tempting solution. I hope there are others.
I have also read about Yosemite USB problems. I have OSX 10.10.5.
Could it be a software problem that El Capitan would fix?
Thank you so much for taking time to read this. It is really appreciated!
