Fonts splitting into different types T1, TT OTF major problem!

Please see link below to a post from two years ago (which was never answered). After searching for answers for 2 weeks now, this is the first time I’ve come across a similar problem. Starting happening out of the blue with fonts I’ve used for a long time, even over a year. Suddenly fonts are splitting into T1, TT and OTF which is messing my work up and my clients on the other end. It started with one particular font, and is now spreading out to other fonts.

Have tried tech support at Adobe, however they could not help. I have removed/moved the fonts, replaced the fonts, cleared the font cache 4 times and nothing is helping. I also noticed that fonts on my desktop now have the type of font showing, ie. whereas before a font folder may contain “(font name here)-Regular” now it shows in the font folder as “(font name here)-Regular.otf”.

Other than that, I really have no other info. I have stopped using Font Book, putting my fonts in the System Library, which has helped somewhat, but not completely. It’s a little less messed up. Otherwise it’s so convoluted I can’t even being to describe, fonts show up split into different types, or they’re there, but not really there. One minute they’re working fine, then in the next doc the fonts aren’t recognized.

I have work to do and this is really a major problem!! Hopefully someone has an answer!
